1 Nephi 11
Nephi believed his father Lehi when he told his family about the vision or dream he had had, and he had a great desire to see those things for himself.
1 "for it came to pass after I had desired to know the things that my father had seen, and believing that the Lord was able to make them known unto me, as I sat pondering in mine heart I was caught away in the spirit of the Lord. . . ."
I like that scripture because it outlines some steps that are necessary in order to obtain spiritual knowledge from the Lord. He first desired, and the way to make our desires known to the Lord is obviously to earnestly pray about it. He believed that the Lord could make it known to him, and he pondered it in his heart. We (I) likely won't be visited by a divine messenger as was Nephi, but we can receive answers and knowledge through the Spirit.
Chapters 11-14 are full of important symbolism that was shown to both Nephi and Lehi. Fortunately, Nephi wrote much of what was explained to him, and we are very blessed to have it, as it relates to life today as we seek to return back to the presence of the Lord.
